Risk Management (CSM RA) – Common Safety Method

Risk Management (CSM RA – Common Safety Method for Risk Assessment) is the common safety method mandated by the European Union for the identification, analysis, evaluation and reduction to an acceptable level of safety risks in railway systems. The CSM RA process is carried out in line with the regulations and guidance published by the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA) and is legally binding in the railway sector.

  • As SI Global, we provide ERA-compliant CSM RA risk assessment and consultancy services to infrastructure managers, railway undertakings and ECMs (Entities in Charge of Maintenance).
  • We treat risk management not as a standalone analysis exercise but as a dynamic structure that supports decision-making and is integrated with the Safety Management System (SMS). For every technical, operational or organisational change (CSM), we ensure that the safety level is preserved.
  • Railway Regulatory Compliance & Management Systems

    Within the scope of CSM RA consultancy;

    • CSM RA applicability analysis (Significance Test)
    • System and subsystem-level Hazard Identification
    • Definition and application of the risk assessment methodology

    The relationship between CSM RA and SMS: CSM RA is an inseparable part of the Safety Management System (SMS). Risk assessment outputs are used directly in safety objectives, operational controls and continuous improvement.
